QnA Schengen Visa
What is the "main destination" rule and how do I determine it if I'm visiting multiple countries?
Outbound Team
The “main destination” rule is one of the most important parts of a Schengen visa application. It helps you decide which country’s embassy or visa centre you should apply to.
Here’s how it works 👇
1. 🇪🇺 Apply at the embassy of your main destination — this is the country where you’ll spend the most time during your trip.
2. If you’re spending equal time in multiple countries, apply at the embassy of the country you’ll enter first (your first point of entry).
💡 Example:
If you’re visiting France for 5 days and Italy for 3 days, your main destination is France, so you should apply through the French Embassy or VFS France.
But if you’re spending 4 days in France and 4 in Italy, and your first flight lands in Italy, then apply via Italy’s embassy.
✨ At Outbound Singapore, we help travellers plan their Schengen route, calculate their “main destination,” and apply through the right country — so your visa is processed quickly and correctly from the start.
