QnA Schengen Visa
How long is my biometric data valid for future applications?
Outbound Team
If you’ve already given your biometric data — fingerprints and photo — for a previous Schengen visa, you don’t need to redo it every time.
Your biometric data stays valid for 5 years from the date it was first collected and is securely stored in the Visa Information System (VIS).
That means if you apply for another Schengen visa within those 5 years, the embassy can reuse your data — saving you another trip to the visa centre.
💡 Tip: You only need to redo biometrics if:
• It’s been more than 5 years since your last Schengen visa; or
• You applied under a different passport; or
• The embassy specifically requests new data for verification.
✨ At Outbound Singapore, we’ll check your previous visa record and let you know if your biometrics are still valid — so you never have to guess.
