When is the definitive start date for the ETIAS system?
Outbound Team
The official start date for ETIAS is not yet finalized — but as of now, the most credible and recent projection is that it will begin in the last quarter of 2026.
Here’s what we know right now 👇
🔎 What the EU has announced so far
• The EU has confirmed that ETIAS will launch only after the implementation of Entry/Exit System (EES) (which replaces passport stamps with digital registration).
• EES is scheduled to start on 12 October 2025, with gradual rollout across Schengen entry points.
• ETIAS is expected to follow after that — the EU’s official ETIAS website currently lists the launch as “last quarter of 2026.”
• No exact calendar date for ETIAS activation has been published yet. Once confirmed, there will be a public announcement — travellers will have advance notice.
⚠️ What to expect in practice
• Until the EU announces the exact date, ETIAS is not yet required.
• Be cautious: some older sources or unofficial websites might still reference earlier ETIAS deadlines (like 2025) — these have been postponed.
• Once ETIAS becomes live, there may be a transition or grace period during which travellers are encouraged to apply — but the system might not be enforced immediately.
💡 Outbound Singapore Tip
Because the timeline can still change, we recommend not booking travel relying on ETIAS just yet.
Once the EU confirms the date, we’ll notify you — and guide you step-by-step on how to apply correctly and avoid scams.
