My domestic health insurance has international coverage; is that sufficient?
Outbound Team
If your domestic health insurance includes international coverage, it may not automatically qualify for a Schengen visa — unless it clearly meets the official requirements.
Here’s what you need to check 👇
🩺 1. Coverage Amount
Your policy must cover at least €30,000 (around SGD 43,000) in medical expenses for emergencies abroad.
🌍 2. Coverage Area
It must explicitly state that coverage applies to all Schengen countries, not just “Europe” or “international regions.”
🛫 3. Repatriation Clause
Your plan must include emergency repatriation — meaning the insurer will pay for your return to Singapore in case of serious illness, accident, or death.
📄 4. Embassy Letter
You’ll need a certificate or letter from your insurer confirming these details. General policy documents are usually not enough.
💡 Tip from Outbound Singapore:
Most local health plans don’t provide full Schengen-compliant proof. We help our clients secure approved travel medical insurance instantly — meeting every embassy’s criteria without extra paperwork.
