QnA Schengen Visa
Does the visa fee differ based on the applicant's age (e.g., for children)?
Outbound Team
Yes โ the Schengen visa fee does differ based on age.
Children pay a lower fee, and younger children may be fully exempt.
Hereโs the breakdown in simple terms ๐
๐ถ 1. Children under 6 years old โ FREE
There is no Schengen visa fee for children aged 0 to 5.
Parents still need to submit the full application, but the embassy fee is waived.
๐ง 2. Children aged 6 to 12 โ Reduced fee
Children between 6 and 12 years old pay a reduced visa fee.
This is significantly lower than the adult fee.
๐ฉโ๐ฆฐ 3. Applicants 12 and above โ Full adult fee
From age 12 onwards, travellers pay the full Schengen visa fee, regardless of purpose (tourism, business, visiting family, etc.).
๐งพ Important notes
โ๏ธ Service fees still apply
Even if the embassy fee is reduced or waived, the VFS/TLS service fee must still be paid.
โ๏ธ Fee exemptions may apply
Certain groups (students on official trips, researchers, teachers accompanying minors) may receive additional exemptions.
โ๏ธ Fees are non-refundable
The embassy fee is not returned even if the visa is refused.
Outbound Singapore checks all applicable exemptions so you never pay more than needed.
