QnA Schengen Visa
Does the visa fee change depending on the exchange rate?
Outbound Team
Yes — the amount you pay in your local currency can change because Schengen visa fees are set in euros, and visa centers convert them using the current exchange rate.
Here’s how it works 👇
💶 1. The official visa fee is fixed in euros
The EU sets the fee in euros:
• €90 for adults
• €45 for children 6–12
• Free for children under 6
These amounts do not change often.
But…
💱 2. Visa centers convert the fee into your local currency
If you are applying in:
• Singapore → fee is charged in SGD
• Malaysia → in MYR
• Indonesia → in IDR
Because currencies fluctuate, the fee you pay locally may increase or decrease slightly depending on the exchange rate at that time.
Example:
If the euro strengthens, you will pay more in local currency.
If the euro weakens, you will pay less.
🏦 3. VFS/TLS update fees regularly
Visa centers update their local currency fee periodically — sometimes monthly or quarterly — to reflect exchange rate changes.
So two applicants applying one month apart may pay slightly different amounts.
⚠️ 4. Service fees also fluctuate
Visa application centers charge service fees in the local currency, which can also be adjusted based on operational or currency changes.
