I have a residence permit from a Schengen country; do I need a visa to visit other Schengen countries?

No — if you already hold a valid residence permit from a Schengen country, you do not need a separate visa to visit other Schengen countries.
A Schengen residence permit gives you the same travel rights as a multiple-entry Schengen visa, as long as it is valid.
Here’s what it allows you to do 👇
🌍 1. Free movement within the entire Schengen Area
With a valid residence permit (e.g., from Germany, France, Netherlands, Italy, etc.), you can travel to any other Schengen country for up to 90 days within a 180-day period for:
• Tourism
• Business
• Visiting friends/family
No additional visa needed.
🛂 2. Use your residence permit + passport for entry
When crossing borders, simply show:
• Your passport
• Your Schengen residence permit card
This acts as your entry document.
🕒 3. Your “90/180-day” rule applies to other Schengen countries
Even though you can live long-term in your resident country, travel to other Schengen states is limited to:
90 days in any 180-day window.
❗ Important exceptions
Your residence permit does NOT allow visa-free travel to:
• Ireland (not in Schengen)
• Romania, Bulgaria, Cyprus, if your permit is not recognized for movement (varies by country)
Always check before traveling.
💡 Outbound Singapore Tip:
If you plan to travel often across Europe, your residence permit makes it easy — but we can help you check entry rules for non-Schengen countries and ensure your travel complies with the 90/180 rule.
