If my passport is lost or stolen with a valid Schengen visa, what is the procedure?
Outbound Team
If your passport with a valid Schengen visa is lost or stolen, don’t worry — it’s serious, but you can handle it step by step.
Here’s what to do 👇
1. 🚨 Report it immediately
File a police report in the country where the passport was lost or stolen. This official document is essential for all next steps.
2. 🏛️ Notify your embassy or consulate
Contact your home country’s embassy to apply for a replacement passport or temporary travel document.
3. 📝 Inform the Schengen embassy or visa center
If your Schengen visa was still valid, inform the embassy that issued it (or the Visa Application Center you used, like VFS or TLScontact).
They will cancel the lost visa in their system for security reasons.
4. 🧳 Apply for a new visa
Unfortunately, Schengen visas cannot be reissued or transferred to your new passport — you’ll need to apply again, including fresh documents and biometrics (if needed).
✨ At Outbound Singapore, we can assist you through the entire process — from preparing the police report and embassy letters to helping you reapply smoothly for a new Schengen visa.
