QnA Schengen Visa
How does ETIAS affect someone who currently needs a Schengen visa?
Outbound Team
If you currently need a Schengen visa, ETIAS does NOT affect you at all.
You will not use ETIAS.
You will continue applying for the Schengen visa exactly the same way you do today.
Here’s the clear breakdown 👇
🚫 1. ETIAS is not for visa-required travellers
ETIAS is only for people who are already visa-exempt, such as:
• Singaporeans
• Malaysians
• Japanese
• Americans
• Australians
If your nationality currently needs a Schengen visa, ETIAS will never replace that requirement.
🛂 2. You will still follow the full Schengen visa process
Nothing changes for visa-required travellers.
You will still need to:
• Book an embassy or VFS appointment
• Submit documents
• Provide biometrics
• Show financial proof
• Show travel itinerary & insurance
• Pay the €90 visa fee
ETIAS will not make the process easier or harder — it simply does not apply to you.
🔄 3. ETIAS and the Schengen visa are separate systems
Here’s the simplest way to understand it:
• ETIAS = electronic pre-approval for visa-free travellers
• Schengen visa = full visa for visa-required travellers
Two different groups, two different processes.
🌍 4. Even after ETIAS starts, visa-required travellers must still get:
• Schengen Tourist Visa (Type C)
• Business Visa
• Family Visit Visa
• Medical Visa
• And any long-stay visas (Type D)
ETIAS does not replace any of these.

If you currently need a Schengen visa, your process stays exactly the same — and our team continues guiding you step-by-step.
ETIAS is only relevant for your visa-free friends or family members.
